Groucho Marx: You Bet Your Life

Groucho Marx: You Bet Your Life
"Now it's time to play... You Bet Your Life!" For 14 years that's how Groucho Marx concluded his conversations with the 2,500 offbeat characters, regular folks and thoroughly unusual people who were contestants on the show. They sang, they danced, they chewed wood and they blew up inner tubes. But When George Fenneman invited them to "come in please, and meet Groucho Marx." they were immediately relegated to the role of second banana. Even the occasional celebrity guest was merely fodder for the one... the only... Groucho! "You Bet Your Life: The Best Episodes" collects 18 classic episodes in their original, uncut glory. Restored from the archival film prints, they haven't been seen this way in over 40 years. And the wood-chewers and other oddballs are joined by some special guests, like Edgar Bergen and his young daughter Candice; movie Tarzan Johnny Weissmuller; boxing great Joe Louis; Phillis Diller, in her first television appearance; and Harpo Marx, in his only appearance on his brother's show. Hilarious outtakes, a selection of vintage commercials and three rare, post-"You Bet Your Life" Groucho pilot films round out the collection. so "Come in, please, and meet Groucho Marx.

"Disorder in the Court" (1936) When a sexy nightclub dancer is put on trial for murder, her only hope is three star witnesses: Moe, Larry and Curly. "Dizzy Detectives" (1943) Rookie gumshoes Moe, Larry and Curly kick off their new careers with a case that proves to be way over their heads. It seems a gorilla is committing a series of burglaries, and they may be the only ones to catch him. Can they crack the case before the big ape really goes bananas? "Flat Foot Stooges" (1938) A crooked fire truck salesman finds himself in hot water when he sabotages one of Fire Chief Kelly's trucks. "Crime On Their Hands" (1948) Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but they're not Shemp's. When he mistakes the Punjab Diamond for a breath mint, Shemp faces the end of an unsterilized knife in the hands of Dapper Dan, who stole the diamond and wants it back ? and he's not waiting until it passes naturally. "Who Done It?" (1949) When The Phantom Gang strikes again, millionaire Old Man Goodrich calls the Alert Detective Agency and hires the Stooges to protect him.
